Guys ,
I am a very big fan of IR . No MD in the world can overtake him in quality of composing and his music stamena .But presently his songs still though good are not big commercial hits like ARs songs. Is it because he is not changing his style of presentation ,is it the outdated instruments or what ??? Analyze and brainstorm out where he is going wrong and how he can avoid that ??

He should atleast for some time keep aside all his existing old instruments and 100% if he makes use of the latest western instruments and try to render his tunes with a punch n more loudly ...then commercially his songs can be more successful.........Not even a single boring instrument should be there !!Instruments in prashant's kaadal kavithai(love poem...) were nice...

IR is not going wrong anywhere..but the present generations music taste is going wrong !!
They think that punches and beats and different voices and tanglish pronounciations and emotionless and structureless songs are better..

peeps, thats a bad and biassed statement you have made,
I would put it the present generation's music taste is different from what it was in 1980,
Your statement means "people had great taste in music before 1990"..I dont think so.
Music taste is very subjective.
If you see current generation is being exposed to more global music than before, they hear wide variety than what 80's generation heard.
If you ask the new generation they will say - 80's generation were contained to hear what MDs gave them blindly.

Insider,
May be what u r saying is right. But, it can be applicable only to the city people and by doing so, we might loose our own identity. Can u say the new film songs have the nativity of tamilnadu? NO WAY!! What peeps is saying is 100% right! Can u just imagine an english movie with carnatic music on it, unless or otherwise if the subject of the movie forces to do so???!!! The reason given could be that to elevate film standard to global. Is this the way to do so, by losing our identity???!!
If u r interested follow this link,
http://www.kumudam.com/kumudam/kweekly/pg9.html
and tell me whether bachaan is right or wrong???!!!
Padatthukkaettha, situation-ukku apt-aa, music-um sari, song-um sari, koduppathil IR-kku inai vaeru yaarum illai. Market value is nothing but the price u get for the advertisement u give for the movie. That's all.....

Saran whis is this nativity to tamil nadu? can you describe? How much you contribute to maintain it? how did current tfm remove this nativity?
this nativity speech are political parties. practically we cannot, going global means we dont lose our identity. Why this identity crises does not come in someother area of film industry. This is a growth this should not be stopped by talking nativity etc, We sill have ragas coming and going, we still have folk based music, but we have also startd to borrow or adapt ideas from other forms of music - these are signs of going global,
This is one main reason why western people know only about hindi film industry to indentify India.. We need to break this political talk and see the world as whole till then it is IR arr or msv fight only, meaning we will be fight among us only.

Insider,
I slightly differ from u, insider. Western people know hindi cinema thro rajkapoor films and amitab's movies. If u go and ask the western guys about khans, many dont aware of it. Can u explain this? The reason is very simple. Old Hindi movies had the nativity of INDIA in the story line and as well in the songs. Not many of old hindi songs had western touch!! Please dont think that recycling or copying western songs or music and use them for indian movies will make indian movies GLOBAL. If our movies or songs cant able to depict our own lifestyle or our own culture, then what's the point in taking movies? As thangarbachaan says, We guys take movies in the only point of making money out of it to the most! Hence we compromise a lot. If u consider old movies, can u tell anyone movie that had a compromising factor. I strongly believe that, song or movie with native touch cudn't be a hit when it's remade. That's the originality. What's the point in having a tamil movie that a tamilian cant understand or can't cope up with the tamil culture???!!! To hear the western music, i always prefer original english songs, not the recycled ones!!! Ofcourse, perceptions differ. The bottom line that is related to the topic of this thread, is IR's songs are of nativity and hence IR could not go beyond south india. Since the culture, lifestyle, people's mindset and the music are entirely different in north india, IR miserably failed to impress the mass over there. That's it. Ofcourse, IR didn't make any serious attempts to
earn a seat in north. ARR does this and hence could able to succeed in it.
NB: Going global is different, insider. Do u really think that only by adapting or borrowing or stealing western music is the only way to make TFM as global. NO! By making ur music good enough to satisfy ur own people and by marketing it in a proper way. The best example is Italian and Mexican music. :)

Saran...
If you are talking about MDs lifiting and blindly copying western music then your points are valid.
Otherwise IR and ARR both have brought out their own uniques fusions which will stand the test of time. They have given us a new grammar for modern TFM and Indian music.
Even Modern Spanish and Mexican music as you claim are being original - have incorporated synthezisers and western music structures..thhis is a phenomenon happening throughout the world.....Even modern Western music composers, producers, hip-hop artists are incorporating music from other cultures into their mix.
This is common Human Mentality....always to grow and transform...if you feel that you are losing your identity..it is an Insecurity Complex which Urbanization is causing many people to feel...People who feel left out of the Top of the Pyramid feel that way....I dont blame them....this is the way the world goes....no use in covering up the Truth with talk of losing identity and nativity which are all time-bound and temporary

Saran
But then I agree with you that Tamil Film these days lack in good stories, picturization. The song and dance seem to be more technically perfect in some movies. Old films had the advantage of being first-movers. Remember in those days films used to run for 6 months in a theatre (what i heard). They really needed good stories to keep the audience coming back. These days with 100s of films coming out in a year...the quality is going down...the market has changed for the better or worse.
