Junta ,
IR has done a lot of western classical songs.U can list down songs having an interlude which belongs to this category. To start with...
1.Chandirarum sooriyarum...(avadhaaram) .The prelude is a great WC piece.
2.Aruna Girana dheepam ...(GURU) this is a full fledged WC by IR.

Hi Shankar,
I think a lot of songs has IR giving us the western classical bits. I think PRIYA has most of the songs with some fantastic violin interludes that resemble western orchestration

Talking about WC piece in IR songs,
one song from the film MorutaKalai (Rajni-Rati Agnihotri) "inda poo vilum vasam" (S Janaki) had
the intial lines straight from a WC. ( that is
till la-la-laaaa-la).
I came to know about it when I was listening to a
guitar music in WC , played by Andres Segova and
to my surprise I found him playing the above
mentioned song.
Needless to say IR did a great job in that song.
After all copying from a WC is not wrong.

Ravi - maybe you don't want to shorten Western Classical to WC - as it connotes something else :-))

Ravi,
Why do you think copying from "WC" is not wrong?
How about Eastern Classical, Western Modern?
Where should one draw the line?

dev,
What Ravi meant by "copying from WC" is like composing a song in a particular raga (in carnatic) .This is different from copying . One can make use of an existing raga but not a song based on that raga .Think it's clear now .

I do not see how different a western classical composition is from 'a song in a particular raga'.

Shankar: Just to make my question clearer... If Deva uses pieces from IR's yet to be (if you believe AV, soon to be) released symphony, then is it not copying?

As per the members of these forums only ,IR can draw "' inspirations "rest can only copy.I find this attitude quite disturbing.IR is what today ( Hitless!, Filmless !) because of sycophancy of the highest order. IR fans too seldom like to hear voice of dissent. ,their responses vary from utter childishness to hardcore fanaticsm.. Even after knowing a particular piece has been lifted when some one says copying of wes.classical is not wrong ,I really wonder what is right. If ARR had done it then all these intellectuals will turn Angels -in-charge of TFM.
Let these people hear other MDs classics and that alone can destroy this one-track mind.
thanks to God that TFM history is not going to be written these people with monotonous taste.
I think we need a V.H.Abdul Hameed to enlighten these intellectuals as to what TFM is,how it has evolved over the decades , great work by great MDs and lyricists.
and how much IRs contribution weigh when compared to the size of TFM .
Let me pray to almighty to bring sense of reality to IRs fans.
This letter is not against any specific individual.
Already by divine(!) wish some my messages questioning IR's originality have lost their way in this Xanadu .

sankar,
I think TRSankar considers IR and his fans (fanatics -according to him) as his first enemies .I 've always seen him quoting IR to be hitless and filmless . If U are not aware of the facts please try to get them from those who know it . Who said IR is filmless ? Please refer to Mr.RAJAN's list of movies IR has up his sleeve (but for porkkalam ) . Is IR hitless ?? This , one statement is enough to show how much U know about the recent tamil movies /IR's movies ,to be specific . Is devadai /Raman abdulla not a hit ? I can get U the sales record of those albums .Mind U , RA was on the top the charts till diwali .Devadai was on top 6 from june -diwali . (hope u know philips' rating is as per cassette sales) .
GURU -arguably the best album of IR,wasn't it a hit ?? I couldn't manage to get a cassette since its release and got one only a week or two ago .
Please enlighten me with the classics of some other MDs to destroy my one-track mind .
i'll continue....

Adding to the list of IR's music ...
1) The music before the song " Rakamma Kaiyathattu.." from Thalapathi. 3 voilins race with each other.
2) The beginning music of "Alappole Velappol".
from Yejamaan. Good violin piece.
Lot more to add ...
