Telugu listeners after listening to legendary singer Ghantasala’s Bhagwad Gita for more than thirty years would now have the second choice to the great philosophical verses rendered by none-other than ace playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam. Music is composed by veteran Tamil music director Pughalendhi and it is being released by GSK Melody Presentation. Bigwigs like Ramoji Rao and T. Subbirami Reddy praised the mellifluous voice of SPB who has ruled the roost for more than three decades before releasing the cassette at a grand function at Sri Satyasai Kalyana Mandapam.

A LIVING LEGEND
HEARTY congratulations to SP Balasubrahmaniam on winning the prestigious Padmashri Award this year. The award, a little laate in coming, is one more feather in the already crowded cap of this great singer whose golden voice has enthralled music-lovers all our India. In a long and glittering career spanning four decades, SPB has scaled many peaks as a singer, actor and music director par excellence. His monumental achievements have earned him a place in the list of all-time greats in the Indian film industry. In an age when cacophony passes off as music, SPB’s rich and sonorous voice assures connoisseurs of music that melody in music is still alive and kicking. No wonder then that he is called a living legend.

I'm disappointed with wrong interpretations of others on my views on PS. Much had been written on the "words" alleged used by me. I never had such thoughts on PS, probably PS fans started to have such feelings on their idol and I could have been the trigger to their feelings, I guess. Anyway, nothing against PS.
AVR, Kamal and Critic thanks for ur support and appreciate u guys ability to accept reality.

SJ priyan, always our intention is not fight with u. I am PS fan and also like SJ songs.
Just read the following line and tell us how to interpret. I really didn't get the real meaning os that post. Please help me with this.
"With due respects to SJ, her singing talent isn't any great. She sings like anyother lady on the street."
My intention is not to hurt any SJ fan (including me). Please interpret correctly.

hi Ragavan
the statement given by Sj priyan is universal truth
see Now there are lot of stage singers who can imitate Ps songs very well
Nobody can sing SJ songs with the same expression and sangathees
In that way SJ voice is superior than Others( i am not poiting out PS)

I think SPB+PS pair had better voices, like the golden mascular voice of SPB, & sweet honey voice of PS, but interms of variety & variations SPB+SJ combination can not be matched by any other pair.
SPB ikku nigar SJ only!

SPB and PS combo has some very good numbers like 'Appane appane', 'yengeyo edho pattondru ketten', 'oru kaadhal devathai'
PS's voice got louder as years passed by and probably due to ageing, she lost the fine , volume control in few songs with SPB like
Muthumani maalai, Kappaleri poyachu etc. But SJ was the only singer who could match SPB's sangathis and konashtais atleast till Malare mounama. Sample these songs
'Poomaalai oru paavai aguma' - from Thanga magan- man !!!what a tie it was ,between the 2 dynamites!!!
'Ekantha velai' from Paadum paravaigal - a wonderful romantic exchange between 2 lovers
'Ninaithaale innikum' from Ninaithaale inikkum and 'Oru kunguma chengamalam' from Aaraadhanai - the ultimate blend in harmony between the 2 lead singers.

yes I agree, age was the factor, Susheela amma must be 75+ right??, while janaki amma 65+??
but PS had the best voice that I have ever heard from 50's to mid 80's, but SJ voice has not changed much, I guess she sang the most number of songs with SPB ji, perhaps that is the reason :))

Mr.Raghu who told u that p.susheela is older than s.janaki.....?
it is not true yaaaa...janaki is about 2-3 years elder than susheela!
s.janaki is getting older in her age......but her voice is getting very younger!!!!!
there is no one to match her voice and her history of the south indian film music.
even spb had often referred that it will be a very difficult task for him to sing with janakiji!!!!!
she would use many sangathis, expressions, birkaas, musical touches.....which would be very hard for him to match or compete!!!!
so there is none other to match with spb.....one and only s.janaki.
it is even not correct to refer that s.janaki is male spb.......it is very apt to mention that spb is female s.janaki.
but it will be very interesting that anuradha sriram is mentioning herself as male spb.....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a great joke......?

SJ's DOB is Apr'1938
so who's Elder ??

Anu,
Cool it dude, as far as I know SJ is younger than PS,
>>spb had often referred that it will be a very difficult task for him to sing with janakiji!!!!!
<<
Oh yeah, SJ has said many times, that she finds it difficult to sing with SPB,
dude these two singers are the most versatile singers that India had ever produced, it is silly to compare a male(SPB) versatality with a female(SJ) versatality, male voice has heavy bass like SPB, while a female voice will have thin bass like PS/SJ.

Raghu, for your kind information SJ never said she find difficult to sing with SPB. Even she does'nt know about SPB's statement. But SPB's every interview, he mentioned 'SJ is my all time inspiration'.
regards

I do not know what impression, SJ left on, SPB, in almost every interview, he makes it a point that it is difficult to compete with SJ in singing and that her sangathis and improvisations are unmatched by any one.
In the "TFM" page, till recently, there was an article, "An exclusive Interview with SPB". There too, as expected, he is heaping huge praises on SJ.

@@@@ (@ 67.166.5.232),
Yes, Raghu is incorrect here, SJ never said it is difficult to keep up with SPB and SPB never said it is difficult to keep pace with SJ!!!
Kumar,
SPB never said that Pal, go to www.spbindia.com, or any SPB interviews to find out, but SPB himself Praises SJ a lot, he stated many times SJ is his Favourite in South, while M.rafi & Latha are his favourite in the north!

PS's voice is far melodious than SJ. But SJ is more versatile. IR+SPB+SJ combo is the ultimate in Tamil!
