for IR to get back to his days of glory

ir should refrain from using singers like HH,UK or other nasalists as well as female singers like Sadhna sargam (kills Tamil language), Harini(voice lacks clarity) etc.,.

Use seniors like SPB,KSC,Sujatha and up & coming singers like Harish Raghavendar, Madhu Balakrishnan and even 'Mahanadhi' Shobana, devi and swarnalatha.
I am sure with this and his unlimited flow of tunes,IR can again brush aside hyped MDs of the present days .

  I believe IMHO IR should be more aware and concern that his global fans wants him to use more varieties of instruments and up-to-date audio engineering equipments. The reason behind this is that IR had given us so, so many different tunes, melody, raaga and what not. Now left with new instruments (maybe from all over the globe) and his little more involvement in the technical aspects since most of the other leading MD's seems to be concentrating on these matters. Thus, it would give IR the competetiveness in todays 'not-so-promising' music industry. Thanx.

  sundar, you are absolutely right. foremost, ir should avoid the singers introduced by arr.instead, ir shoul get back to his old singers who had given his golden music, the magical touch. unless and until he uses spb predominantly as before, he cannot regain his past glory.

  U R very close to saying " IR songs were of magical touch due to SPB and not out of his scores.." I am sure SPB gives midas touch to almost all of his songs , but how much can SPB do without a well composed tune/orchestration.
  
  IR can regain glory even without SPB/KSC, but seems to have lost his way amidst these Deva , Sirpi, SA Rajkumar and Harris Jayaraj.
  
  These guys are able to cook up some and produce something that is "sounding different" to the massess. What is so great about 'vasIgara..'? People go crazy about it.

  Spot on dude, hell with the nasalists, IR should recall the lord SPB back into singing, as you know IR & spb are very good friends!, but IR is blindly folowing the steps of ARR by consistenly using feminine nasalists like HH,UK,Udit,Shanker,Sukvinder & srinivas.
  
  He should make use of the gem voice of SPB, improve his rhythm & beats in his song, cos that's where ARR stands tall amongst other MD.
  
  But as evrybody knows that IR melody stands taller than of ARR.
  
  So the conclusion is IR should use the gem voice of SPB, if he still insist on younger singer, then he should give chance to SPB.Charan!!!

  I think IR should hire a sound engineer - though he is capable of producing top quality recording, his recording of songs is inconsistent. This, in my opinion is top priority.
  
  In this day and age, recording some times makes the difference - some of IR's new songs are good, but get unnoticed due to recording quality.

  FOr IR to come back
  1) He must do music for selected movies that are directed by people with a repute of making good movies
  
  2) He should use new age singers, he should pay attention to which MD introed the singer but use them based on whether they wud fit the song or not
  
  3) get out his irresistable urge to use S.Janaki in all his songs, realize that all people will have to age sometime and move on to newer things.
  
  4) totally totally get out of this use the old singers stupid theory. Use a singer for a song if he judges it to be the best fit.
  
  5) do a rajini movie
  
  6) get back with BR.
  
  7) get re-invented, inspired/foired up motivated.
  
  8) treat every other MD is a competition and try and make music that will surpass all other competors.
  
  9) employ sound engineer. embrace digital music whenever necessary. Import new technology and use it in his style.
  
  10) demand that his songs be released in high Q cassatted and not the cheap "pazhani" cassattes.
  
  p.s: how was asha bhonsle and lata mangeshkar's tamil pronounciation different than sadhna sargam( I was talking only abt pronounciation. please dont bore me with a comparison of their singing skills)

  I dont think IR will listen to your or my concept of 'glory'. As an artiste, he has the freedom to do what pleases him. And I have no doubt that he is doing exactly this.

  well,bharath for ilayaraja to regain what he lost in the last 5 or 6 years,it is not necessary to cut down the number of movies ; well he should employ his earlier techniques of composing using pure instruments rather than a sofisticated computer machine which is really cacophonic.U can't just stop him from giving music since he is an " ocean of knowledge".
  where has the tabla,flute,guitar and violin based compositions gone??? It was a big feast he used to give us in his 80's and early 90's. Hope he does that once again. A revival may not be easy now,taking into account the present generation and their stupid music taste.
  Let us wait and hope that raja comes back with a bang!

  that is the problem! IR(and you) should not think the current generation's music taste is stupid. How wud you feel if someone said that the 80's generation's music taste is stupid!
  
  IR is currently using whatever u call as pure instruments. But there is a thread called "for IR to get bak old glory" why? because IR now does not have old glory ?(just a question)
  
  If this is true IR mus evaluate himslef and change what he doing? whats wrong with computer stuff? he was the one who used it first? why not embrace new technology? whats wrong with it.
  
  you will not get the 80's music anymore. imagine how it wud look if some one did beetles kind of music. It wud not be apt in this age.
  
  For IR to revive he needs to change the direction of music and start creating a new trend. The same way ARR did.

  frankly SJ is now getting old. her voice is kind of shaky . With all credit to their singing past. L.Mangeshkar and SJ shld know when to call quits.
  
  In my best IR composition of last decade ( "oru naal antha oru naal" from devathai) SJ simply ruined what should have been a perfect song.
  
  I even started hating SJ after that song. I did not like the tamil version of "jiya jale " also.

  imho, the problem is whether raja is really interested. of late he is not accepting that much movies. he is having films like azhagi. even though kutti is widely acclaimed by magazines, i feel not many will be exposed to it.
  
  i don't know why he is behaving like this. simply frustrating.

  For IR to get back glory
  
  He must follow these protocols;
  
  1) use SPB as his dominant singer along with KSC & SJ
  
  2) IR is the lord, when it comes to "melody", but he lacks rhythm, where ARR, is the master technician when it comes to Rhythm, but vice versa ARR lacks "melody"
  
  3) get rid of Hariharan, Unnikrishnan (can be used for carnatic), Shanker, Udit, Srinivas.
  
  4) Approach superstar & do music for his movie.
  
  5) Direct 4 films with famous hero's & directed by maniratnam, K.S.Ravikumar, Barathirajah,...etc.
  
  
  But the most important thing is the use of SPB, there is no one as near as SPB, especially when it comes to "kadhal Padalghal"!

  Let's encourage him to push hard the music university or research center that he had been planning.
  
  Let's encourage him to come up with real classical stuff (preferably 100% instrumental albums)
  
  IMHO, we should encourage him to say nay to the movie makers (I think he already does to most) and focus on albums that can give him musical satisfaction, experimentation etc. (like HTNI, NBW)

  IR's ocean of golden glory is already there all this while. All that need to be done is for it to re-sweep everyone like a giant tidal wave...ie. by re-releasing ALL his works in re-mastered CD formats.

  Just giving some Tips for IR
  
  1) Only do selected films ( like Friends, Kadhalukku Mariyadai ) with famouse Actors and Good Banners. Definetly he is not going to be approached by Maniratnam, Shankar or Balachander, but he must be selective about his projects.
  
  2) Learn More and More new things. Remember Music is greater than any Individual.
  
  3) Select a nice film, put some new music and Give a Press Release that this is IR's best Album - The New IR-2002

  if somebody says that ilayaraja's music in 80's were not good then it means he/she has some serious deffect.hope u don't fall in this list. Any person even with zero musical knowledge will acknowledge his great talents in 80's.
  A composer really shouldn't change trend by pressure. He should stick on to his style rather than imitating.
  The trend set my mr rahman is fine;but where is this young man now?? He is not really in the picture for the last 2 years. Great creations from a great master like ilayaraja lasts..remains evergreen...no wonder why he is an unconquerable element in music field!!
