  Vaaname ellai was a roaring success. It ran for more than 200 days in devi complex itself.It was a low budget movie and it earned a lot for KB.If you didn't like the music of azhagan and Vaanamey ellai, what can i say.
  Didn't you here these songs in vaanamey ellai.

  It was KB who started the downfall of IR.If i remember it was 1992. Kavathalaya had triple success. Vaanamey ellai , Annamalai and Roja.The small time MD deva got his recognition to score for a superstar movie with Annamalai.The low budget producers started moving towards deva.
  Then off course ARR with ROJA.He also bought in a freshness to tamil lyrics with vairamuthu's re entry.

  even Aalavandhaan just managed 100 days in devi complex.does that mean that it was a hit?
  don't fear facts.AE is a flop.and i'am not an anti
  MR person but AE was in no way a good movie by any
  standards.i remember even kannathil muthamittal was not a big hit but it is by far the best film
  maniratnam has ever taken in his career IMHO.
  i don't know what happened to MR in AE.Hope he comes up with a hit next time like alaipayuthe.

  may be but it is stinking in TFM now a days. So OSCAR, GRAMMY and every award goes for TFM and IR downfall goes to KB, MR and Rajini as a TEAM.

  As vch says AE.. was a total flop.
  
  It had nothing in it to say that it was directed by the most eminent director of INDIA.
  
  I think he made the story very complex in the first half and this made him confuse in the second and he felt very difficult to loosen all the knots.
  
  waiting to see another movie of Mouna Ragam, Nayagan, Thalapathy, Roja, Bombay kind from our MR.
