Other day i rented the movie Niram Maratha Pookkal and saw it. My wife had not seen it. Ever since she finished watching, she has been listening to the song "Aayiram Malargale" non stop. She keeps replaying the song over and over and over.... Composed some 24 years back.. This is where IR stands out from the rest. Unforgettable tunes...

so, en Eniyaa THamizh maakaaalaeeey..... from now on, if u want to praise IR, say "yaamaarindhaa MD'slaiyaeee" :-)..... then that would mean we have the "humility" or whatever..... enna ulagamadaa edhu..... enakku pidichaaa MDaaai he is the BESTnu sollakoodaadhaaa.... if i say "the rest" are useless, then come and argue.... when i say "my Mother" is the BEST mom, that means, she is the "BEST" for ME..... it never means other MOM's are not BEST or BAD or whatever nonsense.....

Lets get on with the thread guys..
is there athikaalai neramey on the net anywhere? what a start to the song! man - sheer magic! IR is INCOMPARABLE in the preludes imo.
I have a question. when you say a song is on the net, is it primarily mp3 format? can we save them to our hard drives, and if we do is there a way of converting them so that an ordinary CD player (not one that can read mp3) will play them? My car and hence the CD player is a 94 model and heaven to me would be listening to something like athi kaalai.. on my CD as I am driving!

tigger,
what you plan to do would be illegal!!! :-)
Just found this with a quick search though I have no idea how good the product is.
http://www.zittware.com/products/CDMaster32/mp3tocd.html
Remember that MP3 is a lossy compression, so you already lost some quality when the file became MP3, so it will never be as good as original CD (however, the quality difference may not be that significant if your Mp3 was encoder at a high bit rate).

Observer,
lets just say I own the copyright to some songs and I want to find out the possible ways how other people try to copy my songs! :)
Thanks for the link. I asked my friends at work and they also suggested using winamp at winamp.com.
speaking of niram maaratha pookal, does the song iru paravaigal have the "flow" that someone (was it Sabesan) wanted? I love this song! the simple guitar chords in the interludes are unbelievable. I have always been amazed by the magic that IR can create using basic instruments/sounds.

tigger - yes, i like the flow in this song too.... the happiness, the loveness etc etc, in the song.... but something else also comes to mind - the way Radhika and Sudhakar sing the song in the movie..... aioooo.... poochhu i can't sleep tonight :-).....

Tigger
yes... downloadable mp3s can be converted to .wav format (Audio CDs)...Almost all the CD Writing Softwares do this (Adaptec,Nero etc.)
So a CD which can hold upto 180 mp3 songs (180 * 5MB roughly) can hold 12-16 wav songs depending upon the song size.

padaithaney bramadevan is by V Kumar or Vijay Bhasker, sounds more like the latter.
but, coming to IR magic: I am thoroughly stunned by these songs:
O Butterfly (Meera)
Innum Enna Seyya Pokirayi (Singaravelan)
Ival Oru (Brahma)
Enadu Vizhi (Solla Thudikuthu Manasu)
Mallihaye, Malligahye (KJY/SJ)
Thattathadanam Kummi Kotti (MV/SJ)
Sittu Parakuthu Kuthalathil (TLM /Sunandha?)
Poothathu Poothathu etc.. (PS)
Kannana Kanna Unna Yenna Solli Thaalatta (KJY)
The last 4 songs, I don't know the movies, would appreciate info on those.
Then, in Nalla Naal a drunken duet - Idhu Brahmandam Damarodham....
Also, Jinjinakku Janakku in Enga Ooru pattukkaran
These songs are just unbelievable going by various measures! I doubt that enough has been comprhehended of the depth and complexity of these tunes.

When I was going through another forum on TFM, i came across this piece of information. It was about IR. The contributor had quoted a song by IR from Andha oru nimidam. " Siriya Paravai Siragai Virikka Thudikkirathey". The song has three charanams each in a different style. When I heard that recently.t'was an amazing fusion. It was like three different song when heard them seperatly. Can any one recollect similar songs by
IR?

jaypee,
you are right - its a wonderful attempt,
there is one another IR song with 3 charaNams ... 'KaRava maadu 3' from MagaLir Mattum ... just listen to this song - first charanam is for revathy who is a modern girl as per the story - so IR uses western kind of orchestrisation ... then comes urvasi .. brahmin girl ... so the second charanam has shades of carnatic music ... then the dappaanguthu charanam for Rohini ... You have to also appreciate SPB and SJ for showing excellent (& effortless :-) variety in singing and made the song a very enjoyable experience !

One of my memorable magic song by IR is, "Azhahiya Kannae.." in Udiripookkal...
I probably listened to it over a few thousand times, almost a few days a week for over 15 years. It simple is a magical piece.. probably one of the best use of flute and unconventional use of tabala. Simply outstanding. My children love this song so much..

I 'd like to add another song ,which unfortunately went unnoticed ,since the film didn't go well.
It is 'IlavenirKala Panchami' sung by Hariharan from the film 'Manam Virumbhudhe Unnai.'I thing Hariharan should have given his heart out while singing this song.
Beautiful.

Raja,
If your wife has watched recent IR music films she would have used the remote control to skip the songs. That's the difference between IR's old songs & new songs.
