She got nearly 20 other state awards .4 national awards
but she didn't get even one karnataka state award..
what does it show...
The narrow minded people or what?

Av, I am very thankful to you about the link, becoz I never heard about this song.And the song 'charana kamala' beautifully sung by SJ. Is this song is from private album? or a movie song?, please give me the details of the song. And the same Kannada SJ's link please do hear 'Kanasalli Bandavanaare' this song is based on raga 'Madhubanthi'. And one more thing 'Chandra mukhi' song sung by Blore latha and SJ. And one more song is 'Gaali Gopura' is the super duper hit, and this song is my all time fav. and even SJ's too. And did you listen her 'Gaganavu Ello' evergreen song. ENJOY.

Kaumudi, yes you are right, I think her voice(songs) are medicines to me. You know I have her lot of telugu songs also.'Neeli Meghalalo' is my all time fav song. I try to uploading her one more kannada classical 'Bhuvaneswariyaa Nene Maanasave'.based on 'Mohana Kalyaani'.

"Charana Kamala Bandhe" is an oriya song by SJ..I dont recollect the film's name. SJ was very successful in Oriya films.

BTW, can you upload the song "shiva shiva..." again. I was unable to download the song at all. Perhaps could you put it onto another site? Sorry for the trouble!

That Hindi song that you gave a link for is actually a Telugu original from the film Mayuri, probably dubbed/remade into Hindi. The original musical score was by SPB. A wonderful score for that movie. This song Pag padam's original version is Nee padam sung by SPSailaja. Remaining songs in that movie were sung by SPB and Janaki. This Hindi clip however shows L-P as the music directors, but the song including the tune and even the interludes and BGMs are totally the same as that in the original Telugu song.

Let me help you here with downloading the Shiva shiva song. Follow the following instructions:
Go to www.coolgoose.com ---> click on Music icon right on the top (4th one of the 6 icons) ---> click on World (at the bottom) ---> click Kannada ---> click Classical ---> The tenth song from the bottom is Shiva shiva.

If the above procedure is what exactly you did, then I don't how else you could solve this problem.

Glad to see discussion on my fav. singer.
Did any one listen to the song "Nindu punnami nela" from Runanubandham (telugu).
It's a pretty old film, probably from the beginning days of S Janaki as a singer.
Her voice sounds very sweet and melodious..

Though musicindia says that the song is by P Suseela, it's actually sung by S Janaki.

Thanks for bringing up this song. The song actually is sung by both Suseela and Janaki - PS singing the pathos part of it and Janaki singing the joyous part of it, listen to how the music changes tempo between these two parts. Both PS and SJ sing it so well. How young and clear their voices were! It's our privilege to have such great singers sing together a duet.

But the song begins with Janaki's part and ends with hers as well.

Sorry, I didnt read your last message. yes, I finally managed to download the song :-).

Janaki rules! She is awesome, mindboggling, heavenly and divine in that song. She has mastered the art of brisk taans and the ability to sing those patterns with poignancy and gusto. That is again evident in the last one minute of "jay gowri jagadeeshwari" as well. Personally, I feel, in these forums, Janaki's credentials in the semiclassical domain and her vocal range have been almost criminally under-estimated. Janaki's voice of the 50s and 60s in particular had the rare combination of classical fluency and an ineffable sweetness. Honestly, gone are the days when I used to feel that only Vani was capable of singing these semiclassical masterpieces. On the contrary, singers such as Janaki (or Chitra) have added their own unique brilliance to all these songs in a manner that has never been matched. I have learnt that I have a lot to discover and savour in Janaki's old repertoire in particular.

Glad you liked the song. Yeah, other than a little bit here and there in this forum, discussion about Janaki's songs with strong carnatic/hindusthani flavour is pretty much non-existent. If only a couple of them, like Shiva shiva etc, bagged a national award or two (and she deserved it), those songs would have been much more popular, well beyond the barriers of the language and the south. It is sad that one tends to associate just cabaret/club songs with Janaki much the same way Asha was and is always associated with "nasha" songs. Singers of those days be it SJ, VJ or PS belonged to a special category, one which is to be looked at with awe.

Only those who have either not heard much of Jaanaki's songs or have no discernment can think that Jaanki was a singer of cabaret songs etc. Those who have heard her classical/emotional/ religious performances know where to rank her quality; right up there at the pinnacle. Among southern classical songs, her highest and most inspiring performances are the ones which cast a spiritual trans over the listener.

One small request - Meerakrishna had earlier provided an mp3 of Janaki's Shiva shiva ennada song (from Hemavathi) on coolgoose.com. I wonder if someone can give me the Kannada lyrics of the song (of course without the swarajathis) transliterated into English. That would be really helpful. If it is in the kannada script, that is fine too.

Karnataka govt. was not giving any awards to Singers. So Janakiamma forced to give the awards top singers as a mark of Encouragemenet. ZTHe Karnataka govt made an unusual rule that - only Kannada singers or the native singers will get awards for The Best Singer Category.
So janakiamma or the other siongers have n ot get awards.

To all Kannada speaking friends - Is "Shiva shiva ennada nalige" really a very rare S-J song? I forwarded the link to a Kannada speaking friend and he was surprised to know that such a miracle of a song existed. Only SJ could have sung this song so effortlessly, I wonder if *any* other singer could have rendered it so well. What other songs by S-J would fall exactly in the same difficulty level!
