Authentic Number of SPB Songs: Help!! Authentic Number of SPB Songs: Help!!

I am a North-Indian and an ardent fan of SPB, even before Ek Duuje Ke Liye hit the theaters... thanks to my friends who introduced me to this genius's music. Since then I have listened to many of his old and new Tamil and Telugu numbers.

This forum is extremely engaging (except of course when someone jumps to Tamil:) I guess I need to learn the language fast) I am glad I found this site.

SPB has sung so many songs (both film and non-film) in so many languages and must have surpassed the record of any singer in the world.

Yet there is no concrete database of all his songs available. (at least I haven't been able to locate it). Can anybody help?

Lata Mangeshkar is supposed to have sung over 40,000 songs. Is that true? If so, is there a database of her songs available too?

I hate it when the media doesn't question the dubious claims of the likes of Kumar Sanu of having sung the maximum no. of songs by a male singer!!! Come on, give me a break!

In the North, I do agree that there exists a bias towards South Indians as a whole (and the media is to blame too), because of which there's no awareness of the achievements of South Indian musicians such as Bala Subrahmanyam, Sushila and Janki and great music directors like Mahadevan and Ilya Raja. Raja's songs, interestingly were great hits in Hindi, albeit in their below-par shameless copied forms (by Anand-Milind). Rahman, thanks to Mani Ratnam's Roja was able to grab everyone's attention and continues to contribute to the new sound (which is now being increasinly aped by Anu Malik and his ghost-composer Ranjit Barot)!

Anyway, Like many others, i would like to know the true number of songs rendered by SPB as well as by Lata. It's high time somebody sets the 'record' straight!

I am a big fan too of this legend.

I am not sure about the updated number of songs. The number usually quoted is 35000 over 33 years. This was the number (to be?) sent to Guinness records. Not sure how many more he has sung after that.

There is another thread on why SPB hasn't succeeded. The conclusion was that it was Hindi world's loss & South's gain.

As far as learning Tamil goes, there is a better reason. You might find out why the South loves SPB so much & appreciate him much more.

coming to SPB, he has recorded over 40,000 songs this is proven fact, lata has only sung 15,000 songs this came from her mouth, when she visited
Clinton in 1995/96 along with SPB, Clinton was amazed by SPB's achievement, then again who would not be.

Yes he has entered the "Guinness books of records", for singing the highest number of songs, he has achieved this in 35 years that is 3 recording per Day!!!

as u can see there are several threads about this genius in this forum.

Apart from Rafi. Kishore, Lata, Asha the north singers are load of crap, pls do not bring the nasal craps like Kumar, Udit, Sonu & Hariharan into this thread, it will be disrespectful towards the legend SPB sir.

So, if Lata herself admitted that she has sung only 15,000 songs and SPB has sung 40,000, why isn't anybody writing about this?

link says she sang about 25,000, but in terms of Dr.SPB, he said on VIJAY TV interview about two years ago, that he has sung over 40,000 songs, his achievement was ready to go to "Guinness books of records", several Offical SPB websites states he sung from 35,000 - 40,000.

SJ, PS, SPB, KJY have all sung more songs than her, yet she is the only singer with the "Ganga Ratna" award, I am sure SJ & Ps are eqauly talented as Lata, so how come the southies are missed on awards again???

No, raghu - teri payal mere geet is a film with music by Naushad - it had 1-2 songs by spb, rest by lata. It has semiclassical songs - a rare thing in modern hfm

SPB is the greatest singer that India had ever produced, but Thiygarajar is the greatest music creator that India had ever produced, without him, we would not be able to appreciate the greats like, SPB,IR,KJY,Rafi, Ghantasala,..etc.

Teri Payal Meri Geet music by Naushad.The stage song is
"Zindagi me Kamse Kam Ek Bhaar Hota Hai,Har Jawan o Ka Dhil me Pyar hot hai"

The other semi classical song is Teri Payal Meri geet.Naushad mentioned that this song was set to Raag "Aanandhi" in an interview.

The cast includes Govinda and etc..
