Anything great about the songs?

The great was satirical.
Anyway I think this song (re)started the trend of nonsensical lyrics with Lolakku Dol Dappima.

I know you were sarcastic when you said "great". I was merely trying to be witty when I asked if there any good songs in this movie, since it was brought up to this forum.
As far as nonsensial lyrics are concerned, Ilayaraja was the king of this. You may wish to start a fresh thread on this.

There is another song in the same movie in the ragam of Soolamangalam Sisters' Khanda Shashti Kavacham. The song goes like this: 18 vayasu, ila mottu manadu aengudu paai poda..

It was disgusting to say the least, when you
see someone lifting from sacred compositions
like Khandha shashti kavasam. Deva intha
alavukku keeeezhe poganumaa!
I was listening to "Once more" songs last
week. Looks like Deva is hitting new lows. Arunachalam songs sound far better!
-R
p.s.
For your info, shashti kavasam(soolamangalam
version) is a ragamalika. It goes thru
kalyaani, thodi, etc and ends with Madhyamaavathi.

What is 'Khanda'? I thought it was 'kandha'. oru vELai kaNNan-khanna discussionukku appuRam kandhan-khandhan aagi vittaarO?
BTW, copying any song is disgusting. We need not feel more disgusted at copying kandhar sashti kavasam (What a magnificient song!! Tremendous perfomance by soolamangkalam sakOtharigaL) just because it is a song on a God. Just because the sacred song is sung on a tune, does the tune become sacred too?? Sorry if I sound atheistic.

To Vadi Velu :
I am not blaming Deva for nonsensical lyrics. (It probably has got to do with the taste of Pavithran - the director).
IR has his share of nonsinsical lyrics - but I think IR does not have many songs where the individual words make no sense.
I think IR has scored more fun/keli/kindal type of songs more than anybody else. Similarly MSV has scored more number of philosophical songs than anybody else (probably due to the association with Kannadhasan).

I too had some reservations in the beginning when I listened to songs like the one in Sooriyan, may Maadham,(Marghazhi poove, in which the song starts with Kousalya suprajaa) etc., But, i think, with changing times, you cannot associate any senti reasons, or cannot consider such changes blasphemy. After all, its man made and things are bound to change! All that we can say is that such repetitions or here-a-bit-there-a-bit conversions are not necessary. With religions involved, such obvious songs should be avoided!
As regards Deva, we cannot blame him because, he is so used to such liftings that he is now not in a position to identify or demarcate the liftings!!
"Why should i bother when i am known now for my liftings, whether it is SSKavacham or even my own songs! I just dont find any difference!" Deva is heard saying!!!

I admire Devaa for this : He stood the ARR wave better than IR. Devaa used to copy IR and he was able to change his style so effectively in a short time. Deva is in films to make money and having tasted success after such a long time he is not going to let go easily. Great survival skills.
Look at him now : he underprices himself (volume strategy), asks his brothers (assistants) to get hold of some good tunes from any source, remixes it and everybody shares the loot !

Isaw kalki recently. Oh good what music
it is? Many times some songs (like roja)
or played instead of BGM. KB who
used to take us for musical excursion,
(As said in a past SOM) couldnt
manage a picnic to a local circus this time.
What to do his brain child rahman is
too costly for him. Ego matters to go back to
IR. And no guts to use good MDs like
narasiman (who did Accamillai accamilai,
rail snegam), L vaidiyanadan, or magesh etc. KB kke Deva dan gathi na, nammakku vera yaar.

I really cannot understand what you are trying to say. What has Roja got to do with Kalki. And what is SOM. Musical excursion, picnic, local circus? Sorry I am totally lost!!

To NOV:
Some of the scenes in kalki has
some outside songs like songs from roja as
BGM (Back ground). SOM is song of the
month in TFM page. Once sombody
praised KB for the song "Adhisaya ragam
ananda ragam" that KB takes musical
loves for a excursion of ragas etc in his
movies. I just remembered the quote
while watching kalki. Esp. when I say Deva
using the 'thilana thilana' starting beat to
churn out two songs. A vital song
'oru kadidhan ezhudugiren ..' was bit
fatal to listeners, like my posting (sorry).
clear now?

This may not be the right thread. but could'nt help it ...KB Deserves no better than Deva. I remember when we rented Kalki with the hopes of a KB movie and were dissappointed at how bad can KB make a movie ..Worse of all he pictures the the heroine as a singer with Deva as the MD. whaTT a Joke. it was a pain watching the horrible ( not to mention plagiarised) music.. what a shame.
But my point is KB desreves nothing better than Deva .. after the mesmerising music of Sinthu Bairavi , Unnal Mudiyum Thanbi all i can say is
.???

This is not entirely related to this thread..but I've heard it said that Ilayarajah tended to be very cloistered in his choice of singers i.e rarely went beyond Chitra and S.Janaki for instance..In contrast A.R.Rahman is praised, among other things, for bringing in all this new talent..now my ques :is this a fair enough explanation or is it just that , nowadays i.e since the nineties people in general are more open to either entering the film music scene themselves or let their kids join etc. I also like to think its largely due to the advent of programs of the the "Bajaj"(haven't kept up with it lately so not sure if the corporate sponsors have changed)Sapthaswarangal variety which gives even so-called "ordinary" people a new career goal...its somehow seemeed to have lent an air "respectability" to the film related professions...just a thought
