Why ManiRatnam left IR

Why did MR left IR.
Reason bhhind it is what is expected.

  I really hope you are right about IR. Bad PR could be the root of the problem. But you know what, we are blessed to have good MDs coming up in TFM.

  You are right! Kannathathil Muthamittal and Iruvar were flops, because we still confuse quality film with revenue at box office. But thank god, there are people - not just in India but the world over, who think otherwise. I'm sure you get the point!

  IR is a man of principles and sticks to it whatever the cost may be. He has walked away from big banners like K Balaji and AVM, because he was the first MD to stand against the big production houses to get ownnership of copyrights for tamil movie albums.
  
  His work is divine to him. From my understanding, he had signed up to a movie for the TN Govt. during the first Jayalalitha regime on evils of drinking. GV was to produce the movie. There was a kick-off function with Jayalalitha attending in the Prasad Studio. Remember, this was a time when Jayalalitha used to play havoc with traffic to let her convoy go. Ilayaraaja was stopped by the police and not allowed to go to his recording studio hous before the function was to happen. Ilayaraaja was not going to take it and walked off and did not attend the kick-off function. GV threatened Ilayaraaja to come back but in vain. That is when GV, MR split with IR. You may want to call this arrogance but I call it guts to stand againt arrogance of Jayalalitha.
  
  In fact, I have so much respect for IR because he can stand up to these arrogant bigwigs even if he stands to lose but his humility shows when he is always there to help people like scoring for movies like Kutti, karuvelam Pookal, Ilayavan - movies done by youngsters from the film institute or helping MSV when he was in need or stuff you hear about him from people like Semmangudi etc. I think his personality is typically what heroes play in movies - stand up against arrogance but always kind to people in need. He is unlike someothers who manipulate the media to portray themselves as humble.
  
  I had the fortune of meeting him at his residence earlier this year. I found a very simple, cordial man, fully at peace with himself. I had just a pleasant conversation with him. He is such a Genius. I think biases manipulated by the media have created a situation where he is not being recognized for his true value.
  
  But generations later when people are going to look at his accomplishments both in terms of quality, quantity and his versatality and compare with his contemporaries, he is going to be elevated in a league of his own with none ven close to his achievements.

MR have chosen ARR to introduce a new sound in Indian Music.After such a roaring succes of Thalapathi, noone will think of changing the M.D in first place for his next movie.Mani always try to give opportunities to the new comers who long for right opportunity.ARR is once such genius who was looking for a right opportunity.Moreover Mani had a thought of introducing ARR in Thiruda Thiruda which was initially planned to be directed by his Asscoiate Balu who lateron directed May Madham.Mani use to launch his Associates from his home production.Subash(chatriyan),Azagam Perumal(Dum Dum Dum),Raja KrishnaMoorthy(Dhasarathan) which has Ir,KarthikRaja and Mahesh respectively.Deva worked in Aasai and Nerukku Naer which happened to be manirathnam's home production directed by Vasanth.By listening to the sample sound tracks by ARR , Mani found he is the right person for the plot.He brought him in and rest is the history. Even Mani wouldn't have thought that ARR will go places and Roja will make that big.Thanks to ARR's music, Roja made its way all over India.Mani was only known among south indians.After Roja, even northies came to know he is a great director.After that break he don't have any reason to change ARR and moreover he has got the responsibility in his shouldeers to push ARR up in the international arena.. which he did with Bombay, Dil se and Kannathil Muthamittal.If he thinks that, Ir is right person for any of his projects he will defenitely go back to Raja.Thats for sure.He is not like BR or KB who thinks themselves as Gods.

  All conjectures, speculations and abuses! I dont see anything other than the above on this topic. Which is quite logical as only those concerned know the reasons and they choose to keep mum about this. Why, for that matter, even Rajni didn't have IIR after ThaLapathi? Could there be any reason? It is high time we stop this guessing game and end this thread on a good note and leave those artists at peace!!

  MR talked about IR's split in one of the magazine interview?
  
  He said, Did I split with IR? Wanted to take a movie without songs!
  
  I could not read in between lines on the above statements. That apart he did not talk about IR's split.

  Mani moved away from IR for Roja because KB (the producer) did not want IR. Otherwise MR had no reason as thaLabadi was a huge it and he had NO reported differences of opinion with IR.
  
  When Roja became a huge hit, he tried to make more hay when the sun was shining with thi. thi and Bombay. Those flopped and so he wanted to move back to IR for iruvar. IR's market was still OK at that time.
  
  IR refused iruvar and MR went back to ARR. MR's next movie was 'Dil Se' and ARR was an obvious choice because of his acceptance in the north. By the time MR decided to do 'alaipaayudhE', IR's market was totally gone. So he has been sticking to ARR.

  Doubter.. i strontgly disagree with u , in what u spoke about Raja's market.Thats not true.Isaignani market is always good and he is busy.Due to the number of music directors launched in the industry his number of movies came down.Even then he was a demanding M.D. Cheran was waiting for Raja for more than 2 months for his movie Desiya Geetham.He has done big projects like Hey Ram,Lajja,Chiraichalai and Guru in that period only.In Alaipayudhae season only Sethu came and become a big hit.Heyram released in that season only.

  What caused MR to lookout for another MD when IR was there and was giving him big hits..that nobody really knows. People have been cooking stories as if they know MR very well.
  Some IR fans speak bad of MR-GV and ARR fans speak bad about IR.
  "Alls well that ends well". He didnot go to bad MD for music after leaving IR. He went to another great MD and results are for everybody to be seen. Even the best of director-MD pairs leave after long innings togather. I dont know much in tamil but in hindi you have Subhash Ghai - LaxmikanthPyarelal, Manoj Kumar- KalyanjiAnandji, Chetan Anand - SD Burman.

  He was also the reponsible for many FLOPS there after.

  X, problem with KB is still he is drama director. But he is good at getting good tunes from MDs, be it MSV, IR, ARR. For that matter, in the following films, the main or next main character is a singer - AboorvaRagangal, Sindhu Biravi, Duet, Kalki, chinna thirai - kaiyalavu manasu. KB was not that powerful to influence Mani for director. infact Kavithalaya wanted Mani not otherway round. But after ARR is popular, KB claims that he "introduced" arr - thats a diff story.
  Some directors have not acknowledged music - because they do not depend on music -
  Bagyaraj, visu, rama narayan...

  MR Madras Talkies tied up with Karthik Raja for Dum Dum Dum. Actually in musical profession nobody analyses why a person left another. Kamal left IR for so many movies but rejoined for Hey Ram & Chandiyar. K.Balachandar used IR tunes for his tele serial Sahana. He tied up with KR for Album.
  MR was always goin Hi-tech. His movies required more electronic Sound effects, DTS technologies, Rhythm beats, Western Oriented songs etc to reach larger audience. Hence he wud've tried with ARR.
  This does'nt mean that MR is not in talking terms with IR.
