Now that dec is on us. we should come to picking the best of the year gone ( not quite) by. i think just like o paneerselvam, vidyasagar has made it to the post ahead of arr,ir,ysr,kr,deva etc.
My personal favourite is the dil no kannukkulla oruthi with povellam un vaasam kaadal vanthathe not far behind.

there seems to be some conniving going on. nandha is just okay, dokey. But surely, poovellam un vaasam ,dil,meenalochani in vedham qualify Vidyasagar.
Honestly even I am surprised i was never a gret fan of VS , but now i am changing - I thought Malare song in Karna was a one off affair. Just like Ajit Agarkar scoring a fifty! But he has come along way. This season his tunes have the perfect blend of harmony & lyrical sense. ( at least some sense) harris j was good in Minnale but let us hear more about him. Ir was good in Annakilli. so let us wait!

Vengayam,
I think you have a serious attitude problem.Its absolutely unnecessary to drag in IR, when you talk about HJ.Everu other visitor to TFM knows that IR is not a one movie wonder, just like Sachin not a one match wonder.
YEARS MAY COME AND YEARS MAY GO, BUT IR's MUSIC IS FOR EVER.
Forget about him and his contributions,if you don't know any thing about him and maintain your relevancy.

In my reckoning, following are the biggest hits of 2001 (my sampling could be poor since most of the time I dwell in IR's goldies, but still it's based on sat TVs & AIR nEyar viruppams and may not be way off from the actual):
1. vaseegarA, azhagiya theeyE (minnalE, HJ)
2. sollAmal thottuchellum thendRal, kAdhal website, vathikuchi (dheenA, YSR)
3. kavidhaigaL sollavA (UKP, KR)
4. songs from dhill, vEdham (can't remember first lines, VS)
5. sirippu sirippu (ALavandhAn, SEL); I haven't come across much of other deepavali releases -nandhA & PP songs may be catching up now
6. dEsingu rAjA, ragasiyamAi (dumdumdum, KR)
7. koothAdi, koothAdi (some ajit film, Deva)
8. rukku rukku roop kyA (probably the only hit of IR, Friends, though not purely on musical merit)
Looks like the winners are HJ,VS & sons of Raja (though KR doesn't seem to have much new projects...a big why?) one can be happy that devA & SAR are fading away:-)

I saw the ragaiyamAi song last week (for the first time) on TV...nicely picturised! This guy Azhagamperumal seem to have good taste & ideas (at least in making musical videos:-) Is he doing any other film? (I would love to have KR assisting him...the first interlude -violin solo- of ragasiyamAi is just terrrrrrrific!)
