Hi folks, a well-meaning friend started a thread on songs with brilliant starts. but the listing is futile because almost all of IR's memorable numbers have fabulous starts, as they are his forte. How about the rare songs where the singers get into he act straightaway? For starters, we see the songs "Paadum vaanambaadi haa", "Geetham, sangeetham", "neethane enthan pon vasantham" and "Vellich chalangaigal konda kalaimagal" begin without any instrumental prelude. Any more? Anybody out there?

hi observer,
nice of u to respond pronto. but u got carried away, i reckon.
pani vizhum malarvanam has a beautiful guitar prelude.
inraikku yen intha aanandhame also has a prelude.
raaga deepam sure starts with SPB's "aaaaa", but there is an accompanying percussion.
anyway, nice to see the response. keep 'em coming, friends.
btw, hope everyone had a GRRRREAT deepavali. mine was terrific, what with BAAASHSHA providing the icing.

Can u call "Bum bum bum bum bum bum......Veetukkulla kattupatta" from My dear marthandan as one without prelude ?
I guess the best choice of all these is "enna satham indha neram"
can u come up with some songs in which prelude and postlude are the same ?

kupps and pras..both of you have named very apt songs. Yes, "azhaikindran madhavan", though having some BGM, is a gem by KJY's mesmerising voice. And pras, regarding that aranmanai kili too, good emphasis to "tune" with very minimal BGM interludes...

"indraikku eninda aanandame" from vaidEki kaththirundal
kovil mani osai thanai kEttathAro" from kizhakkE pogum rayil
-All the above songs have preludes after some mild humming.
My best of IR with absolutely no prelude are:
Vetti Verru Vasam - MM (He makes it up in the first interlude, what a composition!)
Enna Satham Endha Neram - the pauses are just awesome.
Nadham En jeevane - Kaadhal Oviyam
Vizhiyil Vizhi Modthi - KM
This songs is awesome when you see it in the movie. Nice visualization of the situation by IR while composing it.
Kodiyille Malligapoo - Kadalora Kavidhaigal
Another beauty of a composition - esp. the synth in the interlude is great!
