  Think SPB's first song with IR is

  We still don't know for sure whether IR's second
  movie is Paalootti valartha kili or Uravaadum
  Nenjam.

  SPB in an interview (last year) mentioned that IR did not give him a chance to sing in the first film. And he also mentioned that "oru naaL unnOdu orunaaL was his first for IR.

  An interesting incident pertaining to this topic.IR used TMS in his first movie for the male voice.In a party after annakili ,IR happened to meet SPB.It seems SPB came and asked (kidding) sthg like: "ennappa engale ellam partha paattu paduravan mathiri theriyalaya ,chance kodukka mattengala".After this incident IR gave asked him to sing in his movie and became great friends (to the vaada poda extent).

  IR and SPB were great friends even before IR
  entered filmdom. In fact IR and brothers were
  playing in SPB's troupe during their early

  The incident you said, happened in mid/late
  80's, I think. There was the time when SPB and IR had some misunderstandings. It was the time, IR introduced mano. Oneday SPB met IR and asked him the same thing, you told. IR felt bad and they patched up the things. I remember IR
  or SPB saying it somewhere.
  It is true that SPB and IR were friends even
  before, IR scored music for annakili.

  This is with respect to SPB, MANO, IR issue which I read in VIKATAN.
  
  SPB's throat was heavily infected and could not sing for a long time before Mano's entry to TFM. That time Mano was IR's assistant, a track singer and teaching film songs to playback singers. IR decided to give Mano a chance as his voice was close to SPBs. Mano proved himself and emerged as one of the top playback singers. Finally SPB got his throat operated. This throat problem is common to all busy professional singers (m.rafi, lata mangeshkar had the same problem).

  CS - I find the above story difficult to "swallow" (pardon me for the bad pun) That is not the story I heard. IR brought Mano in as a competition to SP Bala, when SPB (SPB fans - I'm sorry) grew too big for his shoes. I believe SPB has never forgiven IR for that and it even shows when SPB purposely leaves out IR's name when recollecting great/influential MDs. And this in spite of IR giving SPB the most opportunity in TFM.

  NOV, you may be right. What I wrote was based on article that came in popular tamil magazine Anandha Vikatan. After Mano's entry, SPB did sing for IR.

  NOV: SPB did have problems with his throat. He recently acknowledged that in an interview where he praised the doctor who treated him - Dr. Mahalingam.

  As far as know, SPB's throat problems happened after 'rAththiri nEraththu' in anjali (1990). Mano was introduced sometime in 85-86.

  CS - yes, SPB did sing for IR after Mano's entry. The question is: How long after? And in what frequency? Maybe those knowledgeable can do an analysis.
  
  Ravi - I am not denying that SPB had throat problems. But my point is, SPB not singing for IR was not due to that. Going by Aravind's statement, teh rift must have occured way back then.
