helllooo all u raaja rasigans and veriyans out there in cybernadu. we all know IR took TFM to a new plane with his seamless blending of western music, naattuppura isai and his own genius to make life liveable. but he has also trod on uncharted waters in several songs. eg: dil bhar jaane from kalaignan, which is one of the best dandiya ras songs i have ever heard. similarly, the hill tribal rhythm in aasaiya kaathula, vilakku veppoam and malaikkoil vaasalil. can u think of any other? pls leave out hindustani, carnatic and such.

the title music in moonram pirai, which forms the BGM when sridevi and friends go for a picnic(before the accident) is one of the greatest different pieces composed by IR.

I have already mentioned this in another thread. These are 2 pieces that cannot be called anything other than IlayaRajaish.
1. Innumerable flute pieces as in Thaalaatuthe vaanam
2. Folk pieces as in the starting music of Thazham poove
3. Veena interlude in Gopemma chetullo (Telugu film - Preminchu pelladu)
These are definitely out of the world compositions

Gopal, you are right. Even after 6 years, I feel "Manasa killi" in MVU has not lost its freshness.Raja used this kind of jazzy composition in only 3 songs which came around that period.1. aiyaa voodu-KM
2. Sikkaadha sittondru from Sethu
3. Manasa killi from MVU.
I like Manasa killi better than the other two. What starts off as a thagara dappankuthu , dramatically changes the mood after Swarnalatha starts of with "Malaiyin manjal" and the effect is simply breathtaking. Now, who said raja has to retire? Not until he runs out of ideas like these
