  There is a song
  'poonjittu kannangal ponmani theepathil
  paal sombu ponguthu kanneerilE'
  
  in film 'Thulabaram' is a nice, melodious song
  which is aptly written for the film.
  I did n't know whether that was discussed

  After Kamal comes to know that
  SV.Sekar has betrayed him . He sings
  
  Paal pola kallum undu

  Movie: thulabaram. It is a remake of thulabaram(mal) which got one of the 3 oorvashi award to Sharadha. It is one of the sad story films where people come out of theaters with a kerchief in their hands.
  
  The storyline goes like this where a slumdweller works as a servant in someplaces faces many problems. On a festival day(pongal) where she is not able to make good food for her kids, She sings this song and makes her kids sleep so that they can forget a bit of their hungriness. a touching one

  pal, the situation is not totally sad. avm raajan and saaradha are shown to be happy with what they have in the movie. only in some places in the song, there is a tinge of sadness. also, i think the song occurs again just before she kills her children...

  Pal & bb,
  
  I remember this movie in pathces (I was under 10 when I watched it). I guess this song appears twice in the movie. Once with AVM Rajan and again after he gets murdered in an union quarrel.
  
  There is another heart-wrenching song in this movie - kaatrinilaE, perung kattrinilaE by KJJ.

  I happened to watch this movie recently. Though this song is not a sad one (the first version). It is a 'fatalistic' song. I am not sure pal got the lyrics right, the woman sings positively and it is AVM Rajan who songs 'Ezhaigal vAzhvathu kanneerilE'. I liked the other song, which Ravy mentions, for its melody (like the lyrics for this song). Somehow it reminded me of the chemmeen (Mal) song.
  All these were penned by kannadhAsan right ? We do really miss him. A man's life is well-lived when he is missed. What a career !!!

  I'm from Malaysia. I've been watching
  Tamil movies for 30 years but I especially
  like the artful speech, lyrics and poise
  of older movies compared to the present
  day ones. The songs in Thulabaram are
  very melodious though melancholic.
